Computer Generation
First Generation
The period of first generation was 1942-1954.
First generation of Computer

Vacuum tubes |
started with using vacuum tubes as the basic computer for memory and circuitry for C.P.U (Central Processing unit). These tubes likes election bulbs produced a lot of heat and we're prone to frequent fusing of the installations therefore were very expensive and could be afforded only by very large organisations.
- In this generation mainly batch processing operating system were used. In this generation Punched cards paper taye magnetic type Input & output device were used.
- There were Machine code and electric wired board language used.
The period of second generation was 1952-1964.
This generation using the transistor were cheaper

Transistor |
consumed less power, more compact in side, more reliable and faster than the first generation machine made of vacuum tubes. In this generation magnetic cores were used as primary memory and magnetic tape and magnetic disks as Secondary Storage device.
- In this generation assembly language and high level programming language like Fortran, COBOL. Were used.
- There were Batch processing Multiprogramming operating systems used.
Third Generation
The period generation of was 1952-1964.
The third generation of computer is marked by the use

Integrated circuits |
of Integrated circuits (I.C's) place of transistors Single I.C has many transactions. Resistor and capacitors along with the associated circuits. The I.C was Invented by Jack killy. This development made computer smaller in size reliable and officiant.
- In this generation Remote processing Time - sharing Real time, MultiProgramming used.
- Hing level language (Fortran-II To IV, COBOL Pascal P.L.I, Basic, All Gol-68 etc. Were used during this generation.
The period of fourth Generation was 1972-1990.
The fourth generation of computer is marked by the use

of Very Large Scale Integrated (V.L.S.I) circuits. V.L.S.I circuits having about 5000 transistor and other circuits elements and their ass ociated circuits on a single chip made it possible to have microcomputer of fourth generation. Fourth Generation computer became more powerful, compact reliable and affordable. As a result it gives rise to personal computer (P.C) revolution.
- In this generation time sharing Reat time Network, Distributed operating system used
- All the higher level language like C and C++ DBASE etc. Were used in this generation.
Fifth Generation
The period of fifth Generation is 1990 till date
In the fifth Generation the VLSI
technology became ULSI (Cultra large scale integration) technology in the production of microprocessor chips having ten million electric components
- This generation is based on paralled processing hardware and AI (Artificial Intelligence) Software.
- AI is an emerging is computer science which interprets means and method of making computer think like human beings.
- All the higher level language like C and C++, jave, net etc. Are used in the generation.
- AI includes.
- Rebook Neural networks Game Playing Development of export systems to make decisions in real life situations.
- Natural language understand ing and Generation.
